Course content

Russian at Edinburgh is one of the largest and most versatile Russian postgraduate centres in the UK. It is also Scotland's oldest Russian department and the acknowledged centre for study of the Russian language and society.

It is a participant of an international research project "Landslide of the norm: linguistic liberalisation and literary development in Russia in the 1920s and 1990s", funded by the Norwegian Research Council.

The Russian Section also offers supervision in projects related to Russian literary, cultural, film studies and comparative literature. The Section participates in the ARHC sponsored project (2010-13) "Reconfiguring the Canon of Twentieth-Century Russian Poetry, 1991-2008". It also participates in the international project on auto/biographical writing in Russia led by the University of Padua (2011-2013).

Russian Language and Applied Linguistics in relation to Russian; Russian and Comparative Literature; Russian Media; Film and Cultural Studies; and Translation Studies in Relation to Russian.
