The construction industry has been criticised for being inefficient and slow to evolve towards changing needs of society and global challenges. “Overly complex, fragmented and price fixated in terms of procurement, adversarial in its supply chain relations, wasteful in its project execution, conservative in its adoption of new technologies” Wilkinson (2015)

The emergence of Building Information Modelling (BIM) ; Advanced Construction Technologies (ACT); Interactive Technologies (IAT) , conceptual and systemic processes offer an expedient approach to design, construction, engineering and environmental problems through all phases of the lifecycle of building development process and have started to offer the industry an opportunity to innovate and evolve. It is clear that the future of the built environment and construction industries will be digitally enhanced.

This course focuses on exploring the issues, challenges and changing digital technological needs of the various stakeholders within the construction industries. This will enable students to develop an in-depth and integrated understanding of BIM and other Interactive technologies applicable to their working practice and discipline area.

  • Explore and develop an advanced understanding of Building Information modelling (BIM), CAD, interactive technologies, collaborative techniques and information exchange,
  • Develop your understanding of theoretical, conceptual and practical frameworks in relation to building environment solutions.
  • Explore concepts, methods and systemic processes for whole building life cycle, leaner, better value integrated design solutions and project delivery proposals.
  • Enhance your technical, collaborative and interpersonal skills to position yourself as a future focused project lead, coordinator or manager.

On completion, you'll be able to apply specialised knowledge, expertise in interactive technologies and creative solutions across construction and design disciplines, at the forefront of the industry.
