Course content

Advance your skills in Cyber security – a government priority area. Provisionally certified by the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC), this course covers all aspects of cyber security, including network, computer and information security. Alongside this, the course focuses on the business context, so that students can progress their careers more rapidly and aim specifically at management positions.

The course is designed for those who’d like to develop a career as a cyber security professional, or to take a leading technical or managerial role. It’s suitable for those from a computer science or information technology education background. The programme is also able to cater for those with no formal studies in computer science – but where you can demonstrate significant interest in cyber security.

By having GDPR in action, there’ll be more roles in companies for Information Security Managers, which makes the MSc Cyber Security a brilliant opportunity for a huge market need.

Study style

You’ll be assessed through coursework, essays and case studies. Each module is delivered in a one week block of lectures, tutorials and seminars. This means it’s easy to fit learning around work and personal commitments.

Our cyber labs consists of a virtualised infrastructure designed specifically to launch different cyberattacks in a safe environment, as well as a dedicated Cisco Network Lab for real-world network security testing using Cisco equipment. MSc students also benefit from having their own dedicated teaching lab. You’ll have access to industry-standard equipment including Kali Linux and Cisco Network Packet Tracer – well-recognised tools used to protect organisations against cyberattacks within the industry.

Study in purpose-built facilities

Our purpose-built School of Computing and Technology hosts a dedicated cyber security lab where students can practice their skills in a digitally protected environment, with an isolated network. The centre also has breakout areas for workshop sessions and the latest computing and technology software.
