Entry requirements

For the Postgraduate Certificate of Education (PGCE) applicants and the Professional Graduate Certificate in Education (ProfGCE) applicants should have:

  • A 2.2 or above in an honours degree in a relevant subject
  • Level 3 qualification in a relevant subject if the degree is not in a relevant subject
  • GCSE English at C or above or equivalent.

Course content

In further education, literacy is an essential life skill to master, and it is your role to educate and inspire.

If you want to become a teacher of literacy in further education colleges our postgraduate certificate in education (PGCE) in the Lifelong Learning Sector (LLS) will give you the skills you need. Your training will include teaching and classroom management, leading to the essential qualifications required to achieve your goals.

The quality of teacher training in Further Education was rated as "Good" in Ofsted report for Initial Teacher Education 2016. The report stated that "Trainees plan and teach lessons that are innovative and supported by the educational theories they have learned."

Our PGCE (LLS) focuses on a career teaching in colleges, adult education centres, art colleges, health care or community organisations.

Our programme also encompasses training for public services and a wide range of commercial and voluntary organisations.
