Entry requirements

Equivalent to a UK second-class honours degree in computer science or a similar subject. Applicants with a second-class honours degree in another subject (combined with an appropriate level of computer literacy) can apply but will need to take foundation modules. We will also consider applicants who do not wholly meet these requirements but who we consider to have enough experience and potential to meet the course requirements.

Course content

Course explores the security of computer systems, covering the latest research in this area and examining the techniques and tools that can be employed, such as cryptography and security protocols. Students examine relative strength and weaknesses of programming language and software features, study a range of security requirements, services, threats and counter-measures, and learn to identify and evaluate the methods employed to break into insecure systems. Network system administration is also covered. Core modules: Distributed Systems Security; Network System Administration; Secure Systems Programming.

Information for international students

If English is not the first language, a minumum IELTS score of 6.0 or equivalent will be required.
