Entry requirements

An Honours degree (2.2 or higher) with at least 50% in the related area you wish to teach. Third class degrees will be considered if accompanied by a Masters or PhD qualification. Overseas awards recognised as equivalent by NARIC are accepted.All entrants to a secondary teaching course require GCSE English Language and mathematics at Grade C or above. Overseas awards equivalents recognised as equivalent by NARIC are accepted. You will also be required to pass the Professional Skills tests in literacy and numeracy before starting the course. Personal suitability for teaching is important and is assessed at interview. Five(5) days recent (within the past year) work experience in a state secondary school is recommended before application, in order to complete specific classroom-based tasks and obtain a brief statement from the school. Download activities. We also welcome applications from those with other relevant experience of working with secondary aged children. Please give full details of all such experience in your personal statement. During registration on the programme, you will be required to complete a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) barred list and criminal records check. If you do not have the required level of English for entry, our academic English courses can help you to achieve this level. 2017 entry 2:2 Degree needs to be in a related subject. Maths and English Language GCSE Grade 4 or above. Subject to interview and DBS check.

This Masters level professional training programme introduces you to the requirements for teaching History to the 11-16 age range and leads to recommendation for Qualified Teacher Status. Where appropriate, opportunities to experience post 16 provision will be available.

You will be introduced to the principles and theories of secondary teaching through both subject studies and a developing professional practice course. Training is undertaken in partnership with local secondary schools.
