Applicants should normally hold a good honours degree in the proposed study area. However, we will consider applicants who can demonstrate their capability by means of publications or employment responsibilities.

Course content

Research areas include: The ways in which practice advances knowledge; The relationship of theory to practice in art and design; The role of the object in knowledge creation; The relationship between knowledge and interpretation; Taxonomies of knowledge and their embodiment in practice.

Department specialisms

Core interest in the fundamental principles, philosophies and problems that underpin research in the creative and performing arts.
