Entry requirements

A good first degree in any subject or equivalent. Other professional qualifications considered on a case-by-case basis. You will be given the opportunity to capitalise on previous experience and learning through the University’s APLA and APEL accredited schemes. Practicing managers with relevant experience and academic potential will be considered on an exceptional basis. We encourage applicants to commit to contributing to the programme and broaden their own understanding and that of others on the course.

Course content

This course is a generalist, conversion Master's course. It has been designed to offer you the opportunity to develop the business skills needed to aspire to management positions in any profession. The course helps prepare for a career in business management and leadership in the UK or overseas through development of appropriate skills at a professional or equivalent level. A Master's level qualification can be of real value to employers and this qualification provides a basis to build on when moving into senior management positions in the future.

The course is intended for graduates who have not previously studied business or management and who lack the necessary depth of work experience for admission to the Master of Business Administration (MBA) course at Huddersfield.

Students on the course come from a wide range of first degree subject areas and from many different nations adding a richness and breadth of perspectives to the cohorts. The course structure provides a set of modules covering fundamental business skills essential for understanding the contemporary business environment. It includes the advanced study of organisations, their management and the changing external context in which they operate.With this business tool-kit you have the opportunity to increase your awareness and confidence when dealing with the complex issues professionals face in a volatile globalized economy.

Emphasis is placed on developing a critical perspective toward research, practice, and decision-making using real world examples. In addition, the course requirements target the development of an ability to apply knowledge and understanding of business and management to complex issues, both systematically and creatively, to improve business and management practice. Furthermore, the learning process supports the enhancement of lifelong learning skills and personal development in order for you to work with self-direction and originality toward making a unique contribution to business and society at large.

Information for international students

International applicants must demonstrate proficiency in English language and will normally be required to meet a score of 6.0 on International English Language Tests.
