Entry requirements

An Honours degree (2:2 or above). Applicants with a significant amount of HR experience but no formal qualifications may also be considered. Non-UK qualifications will be checked for equivalence.

All applicants will be invited to interview as part of the application process.

For applicants whose first language or language of instruction is not English you will need to meet the minimum requirements of an English Language qualification. The minimum of IELTS 6.5 overall with no element lower than 6.0, will be considered acceptable, or equivalent.

Course content

The overall aim of the course is to educate you as a people management professional in a strategic context, and improve the quality of your professional development.

This course offers you the opportunity to develop knowledge and practical skills across a broad range of topics, aligned with the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) Profession Map. This is likely to enhance your career development within the HR profession and give you Associate Membership of the CIPD, enabling you to apply for Chartered Membership when you become an established practitioner. This programme is a blend of practical personal development, and critical analysis of emerging HR trends and issues that organisations are currently experiencing. There is a focus on strategic thinking to prepare you for your future career in people management and organisational engagement.

Our links with the West Yorkshire CIPD branch offer additional networking, advice, mentoring, and updates from the profession as it evolves.

Teaching is undertaken in a variety of interactive ways; including case studies, tutorials, lectures, workshops, seminars, group activities, presentations, individual reflection, as well as a residential event. Assessments are undertaken in a similarly broad and inclusive fashion; through a mixture of written assignments, presentations, critical business reports, consultation exercises, and reflective portfolios. Some of the core modules include Learning and Talent Management, Human Resource Strategy, Developing and Leading People, Reward Management, and a dissertation.

Fees and funding

In 2018/19 the full-time tuition fee for UK and EU postgraduate students on this course will be £6,500.

Tuition fees will cover the cost of your study at the University as well as charges for registration, tuition, supervision and examinations.
