Entry requirements

Entry requirements for this course are normally:

  • An Honours degree (2:2 or above) or certificate in Personnel, HR or Training Practice. Ideally more than two years' relevant HR experience.
  • Applicants with a significant amount of HR experience but no formal qualifications may also be considered.

If your first language is not English, you will need to meet the minimum requirements of an English Language qualification. The minimum for IELTS is 6.0 overall with no element lower than 5.5, or equivalent. Course content

Working in learning and development requires excellent grounding in the principles, realities and practicalities of human resource development (HRD). In a diverse and rapidly changing world, it has become more important than ever to hold a professionally recognised qualification that provides this grounding as well as making your career profile more professionally distinctive and relevant. This course has been approved by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), the UK’s HRM accrediting body, to prepare you for the Advanced level standards of the CIPD new profession map and to provide you with the knowledge and skills needed to pursue Chartered Membership of CIPD.

You will have the opportunity to achieve two essential qualifications: a PGDip and Associate Membership of CIPD with the opportunity to then progress your membership grade. You will graduate with an enhanced personal professional profile and greater awareness of how HRD practices can add value to corporate strategy and enhance better work and working lives.

The PGDip MSc in Strategic Learning and Development will help you to identify gaps in your knowledge and through a process of independent thinking, self-appraisal, and the support of a network of peers and teaching staff on the course, enhance what you do and how you contribute to your organisation’s strategy. It is relevant to HR practitioners in the public, private, not-for-profit sectors, and international HRM.

On this course you will develop knowledge and practical skills across a broad range of topics leading to Associate Membership of the CIPD. After graduating, with relevant work experience you can apply to upgrade your membership to Chartered Member or Chartered Fellow.
