Course content

This MA programme develops your understanding of Victorian Literature and Culture. Built on the research expertise of staff from the Centre for Victorian Literature, this programme offers an interdisciplinary approach to the study of Victorian literature and culture.

The nineteenth century was a time of unprecedented social and cultural change. This course gives you the opportunity to study innovations in journalism and print culture through the lens of Dickens and his journalism. You will also have the opportunity to study modules that examine how new ways of thinking about the body and sexuality; environmentalism and sustainability; and Britain's relationship with the transatlantic and colonial world informed the aesthetic and cultural debates articulated in nineteenth-century literature.
