Course content

You will receive professional training in translation and bidirectional interpreting, working between your mother tongue (A) and another language (B). You will gain experience of key fields in which translators and interpreters typically work, including international affairs, politics, business, science and technology. You will work with seasoned professionals with track records in key international organisations and commercial settings.

In order to inform your future professional practice, you will also receive training in translation theory and research methods, thus enabling you effectively to prepare for assignments and reflect critically on the needs of the client and your performance.

In addition to core modules in consecutive and simultaneous interpreting, and translation theory and practice, we offer a range of optional modules tailored to the needs of our students, including introductions to computer-assisted translation and subtitling. The summer project entails either a pair of extended translations, which develop your professional portfolio, or a dissertation, which is ideal preparation for an academic career.
