Entry requirements

BA(Hons) 2:1 or equivalent in relevant field. IELTS 6.5 overall with not less than 6.0 in any component Acceptable research proposal and references.

Course content

The department of Linguistics and Phonetics is part of the School of Languages, Cultures and Societies at Leeds. The department has a long tradition of providing research supervision for both international and UK/EU students. Its resources include a phonetics laboratory and computing facilities, a tape library, sound-recording facilities, and a purpose-built sound studio. Part-time study available.

General Linguistics; Phonology; Phonetics (including laboratory and acoustic phonetics); Disordered Speech; Historical Linguistics; Syntax; Discourse; Pragmatics; Psycholinguistics; Morphology.

Information for international students

We have considerable experience in supervising students studying their own languages (e.g. German, Chinese, Greek, Arabic, Zulu, Finnish, Thai). Punjabi also a possible area.
