Course content

Our exciting course offers you a unique opportunity to link the fields of healthcare and advanced textile technology through your studies. The field of medical textiles is an extensive and constantly evolving area and presents a multitude of opportunities that can be addressed with innovative textiles for the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease, illness, and injury. The use of technical textiles and fibrous materials are already prevalent in the healthcare sector, from a simple ‘wipe’, to a complex composite structure used for bone replacement. Continual development in both healthcare and materials technology has created a need for study and research to enable the market to benefit from new innovations. Areas of application for medical textiles in the current market include implantable materials/tissue engineering (artificial ligaments etc), non-implantable materials (wound dressings, hygiene products, ostomy pouches), healthcare environment materials (surgical gowns, materials to reduce healthcare associated infection (HAI)), as well as assistive and therapeutic technologies.
