MA by Research: you will usually need a good honours degree (1st or 2:1) or equivalent, in History or a related subject. PhD or MPhil: you will also usually need an MA or equivalent. International students will also require an IELTS score of 6.5, with at least a 6.0 in all components; or TOEFL scores of either 580 (paper-based test) with a 4.5 on the Test of Written English, or 240 (computer-based test) with a 4.5 on essay rating, or 94 (internet-based test) with a 20 in listening, 23 in reading and speaking, and a 24 in writing.
