Entry requirements

A minimum of a 2:2 in a Health or Life Sciences subject including Anatomy, Allied Health Professions, Biomedical Science, Biochemistry, Midwifery, Nursing, Pharmacology, Physiology and Physiotherapy. Non-standard entry will be on a case by case basis. Please note that this programme is not open to international students.

Course content

This full-time, two year Postgraduate Diploma in Physician Associate Studies offers a unique opportunity for you to join an exciting new profession in healthcare.

The Physician Associate is a rapidly expanding role in healthcare in the UK. Working alongside doctors and other healthcare professionals in hospitals and primary care settings, you will support them in the diagnosis and management of patients, including:

  • Medical history taking
  • Clinical examination
  • Analysis of test results
  • Clinical reasoning and diagnosis
  • Development of evidence based patient management plans.

The programme is supported by Health Education North West(HENW) and is offered as a partnership between the University, HENW and NHS partners. You will receive generous financial support while you're studying and will be prepared to apply for a Band 7 'Agenda for Change' position on successful completion of the course.
