All applicants are required on entry to hold a UK degree or equivalent qualification. Normally we would ask that 50% of your degree is in the subject you wish to teach. In addition you must hold English Language and Mathematics at GCSE - grade C or above. Admission to the course is subject to a satisfactory medical report as you are required to meet the standards of 'Fitness to teach'. All applicants offered a conditional place on the programme have to complete forms for this disclosure. In addition, you will be required to disclose any previous criminal record.
Months of entry
You will develop your understanding and skills in three main areas:
- 'how to teach' - you will learn a range of teaching strategies and skills, including lesson planning, effective management, assessment, and the effective use of ICT;
- 'what to teach' - you will consider the important questions such as, 'What is the nature of science' 'What difficulties do pupils experience' and 'What does a meaningful science curriculum look like'
- 'what being a professional involves' - you will gain insights into the complexities of teaching and learning and how to critically reflect on your own and others practice.
