Course content

Our Pure Mathematics MSc will provide you with the advanced skills and knowledge you need to become an industry professional or researcher in this exciting and specialist field.

Through recommended module combinations, you will gain an in-depth knowledge in areas including:

  • Algebra
  • Analysis
  • Number Theory and geometry

You will also select optional modules to advance your understanding in topics including geometry, elliptic curves, metric and topological spaces. Our teaching is influenced by the research interests within the school. We work closely with the Algebra and Analysis and Number Theory and Geometry groups which are based within the School of Mathematical Sciences.

You will complete your own research project in an area of pure maths that you choose. This is an excellent opportunity to align your research with your interests or career ambitions.

The masters gives you the flexibility for many careers in pure or applied mathematics. Many graduates continue with research by studying for a PhD. Others take roles in education, industry and government.
