1st or good 2nd Class Honours degree or equivalent in archaeology or other related disciplines; students with little or no background in archaeological theory are required to take a module in this subject.

Course content

The University of Reading has the largest concentration of medieval archaeologists in the UK. This course is for students who wish to develop their knowledge of the Middle Ages (AD 400-1500) through the advanced study of medieval archaeology. The programme is distinctive in emphasising social archaeology and interdisciplinary approaches and focuses on Britain set in the context of Northern and Central Europe. There is the option to be trained in Latin and palaeography or follow options in history, art history or literature in the Graduate Centre for Medieval Studies.

Information for international students

Evidence of English Language ability required. Normal requirements are: • an overall score of 7.0 in the International English Language Test Score (IELTS) with no individual element scoring less than 6.0 or • an overall score of 6.5 in the IELTS with no individual element scoring less than 5.5
