Applicants should have a good 2.1 Honours degree or equivalent, in a relevant field. This should be combined with a good understanding of the target language.

Course content

The MA (Res) German Studies is designed as a preparation for students intending to go on to PhD research in the field of German Studies. The course offers great flexibility of choice with a range of options covering not only literature, but also history, cinema and women’s and cultural studies. You will also be able to enjoy hands-on sessions exploring the unique resources held at the Centre for East German Studies.
Modules include: Research Methods; Discourse Analysis; Training in Research Skills; Dissertation.

Information for international students

Evidence of English Language ability required. Normal requirements are: • an overall score of 7.0 in the International English Language Test Score (IELTS) with no individual element scoring less than 6.0 or • an overall score of 6.5 in the IELTS with no individual element scoring less than 5.5
