Entry requirements

At least 2:1 Honours, or equivalent, in a design or design-relevant subject or, for exceptional candidates without such a degree, convincing evidence of relevant professional experience. Applicants will be asked to provide a portfolio and an example of academic writing as part of the application process.

Course content

This course is for both newly graduated and experienced designers. You will gain the knowledge and skills to become highly articulate designers. We cultivate observation, analysis and user-centred design methods, as well as typographic craftsmanship. We are concerned with how design can support people’s understanding and ability to make informed decisions. Practical projects cover complex documents for paper or screen (such as forms, instructions, timetables and handbooks), information architecture for digital media, wayfinding systems for the built or outdoor environment, and information graphics. You also develop your knowledge and intellectual abilities through lectures, seminars, directed reading, essay writing and a final dissertation.
Modules include: Practice of Information Design; Core Module; Dissertation.

Information for international students

Evidence of English Language ability required. Normal requirements are: • an overall score of 7.0 in the International English Language Test Score (IELTS) with no individual element scoring less than 6.0 or • an overall score of 6.5 in the IELTS with no individual element scoring less than 5.5
