Taught course

Education (Mathematics Teaching)

University of Reading · Institute of Education

Entry requirements

Applicants are normally required to have a good undergraduate Honours degree (or equivalent from a university outside the UK). If you have other qualifications and a number of years’ relevant work experience then you may also be eligible to apply. We normally expect students to have a professional background in education with experience of teaching. Ideally we would like students to have had at least two years’ experience of teaching but will consider applications from good students with less experience. If you have a slightly lower degree qualification than usual, this can be compensated for by good teaching experience.

Months of entry

January, September

Course content

The main objective of the course is to develop future leaders in primary mathematics who will champion mathematics across the primary age range. Potential students do not need a background in mathematics to join this course. The course will enable you to develop deep subject and pedagogical knowledge within key themed areas of primary mathematics. There will also be scope to develop the teaching of mathematics into Key Stage 3. This course replaces the successful MaST course here at the University of Reading.
