Course content
- Develop expertise and skills in the use of information systems, tools and processes in architecture, engineering, construction and operations
- Focus on the implementation and use of digital technologies in the construction sector
- Get involved in advanced research projects and investigate how we can use exciting new technology to construct and use the built environment
- Develop a broad understanding of information systems and interactive technologies for design and delivery in the digital economy

About the Department
The University of Reading is one of the world’s leading centres of excellence dealing with the challenges of the built environment. We are ranked 3rd in the UK for the impact of our research in the category of Architecture, Built Environment and Planning, and 83% of our research in this area is rated world-leading or internationally excellent.[1]
The School of the Built Environment is highly interdisciplinary in nature, covering a range of diverse subject areas including architecture, construction management, energy and environmental engineering. Our staff have extensive experience as advisers, consultants and visiting lecturers to companies, governments and universities globally.
Our MSc programmes focus on ensuring an excellent student experience. The curriculum extends beyond accepted models of best practice to incorporate the latest findings from research.
Choose to study over two years to fit around your work commitments, applying what you learn immediately, or study more intensively over one year. Both the full-time and flexible part-time modes of the programmes are delivered on a modular basis with teaching arranged in block weeks.
Our excellent facilities include a dedicated computer lounge for use by our students, equipped with the latest digital technology and software, including building information modelling (BIM), 3D laser scanning, 3D visualisation, virtual reality headsets, building energy simulations and urban microclimate simulations.
Additionally, most of our master’s programmes are accredited by professional bodies, and we have a track record of active engagement with the professions. You can be confident of a programme which is professionally relevant and directed towards maximising your career potential.
