Entry requirements
IELTS: 6.5 overall with no element less than 5.5 (or equivalent)
Normally a good undergraduate honours degree (high 2.2 level or above), or equivalent from a university outside the UK. All of our programmes are appropriate for students from any discipline, although a social science, arts, business or humanities background would be of value. Relevant work experience may also be taken into account.
Pre-sessional English language programme
If you need to improve your English language score, you can take a pre-sessional English course prior to entry onto your degree.

Course content
Analyse contemporary issues of war, conflict and security in the context of politics within and between societies.
You’ll gain a grounding in the study of organised violence and an appreciation of the challenges faced by politicians and military personnel. Learn to think critically about a wide range of political ideas, institutions and events and how they relate to issues of security and conflict.

Staff in our Department of Politics and International Relations are directly engaged with contemporary issues in UN, UK, EU and American politics. They have written on, or given media statements regarding:
- the war in Ukraine
- ISIS fighters
- the politics of the UN
- political settlements after war
- proxy wars.
They also provide policy advice to governments and international organisations around the world.
