Course content

The MA in Archaeology is a programme which allows you to create a bespoke degree around your interests and ambitions. There are two pathways: Cross-discipline and Classical Mediterranean.

The Cross-discipline pathway provides a route into advanced study of Archaeology for students with generalist interests. This pathway offers you the opportunity to create a bespoke programme within a clear structure that allows you to engage specific interests in period, region or approach while building on a strong foundation of understanding Archaeology as a discipline.

The ‘Classical Mediterranean’ is a pathway which further reflects one of our departmental core strengths, the archaeology of the Classical and Mediterranean world. This pathway offers students the opportunity to study the Classical Mediterranean from a range of archaeological perspectives (socio-cultural, landscape, materials, bioarchaeological).

The pathways are designed to appeal to students who wish to make up their own programme through a combination of core and optional modules; those wishing to specialise have the choice of the Classical Mediterranean pathway, whilst students wishing greater freedom of choice outside of the core modules, or students who wish to study a combination of periods, geographical specialism or scientific disciplines, have the option of the Cross-discipline pathway.
