We’re looking for outstanding and enthusiastic students for our courses.

You can apply to us with a good degree (first-class or strong 2:1 honours degree) in a relevant social science, arts and humanities, or related subject.

Overall IELTS grade of 6.5 with a minimum of 6.5 in writing and 5.5 in all other components.

Course content

Course description

This special course offers you the chance to study at two leading institutions.

In your first year you study at the School of Government at Libera Università Internazionale degli Studi Sociali (LUISS), Italy’s top graduate school training high-level public and private officials. Based in Rome, your tuition at LUISS will be in English. In your second year, you study here at the University of Sheffield, selecting from our exciting range of optional modules.

As a graduate of the programme you’ll have the skills and knowledge to approach the complex challenges facing European and global politics.

Course duration

2 years full-time – the first year at Libera Università Internazionale degli Studi Sociali (LUISS) and the second year at the University of Sheffield

Careers

Our graduates work for government and other public sector organisations, private sector companies, consultancies and think-tanks. They are directors, private secretaries, managers, political advisers, barristers, parliamentary clerks, senior civil servants and administrators.

Core modules

Three out of the following modules (Semester 1): European Politics in the Twentieth Century; European Macroeconomics; European Institutions; European Policies and Policy Making.

Three from a range including the following (Semester 2): European Migration Politics; European Foreign and Security Policy; EU and State Building in the Balkan; Transatlantic Relations; Mediterranean Politics; History of European Integration since the 1980s.

Two from a range including the following (Semester 3): The Politics of International Law; Europeanisation; Contemporary Global Security; Global Justice; Global Governance; Research Methods.
