About the course

This course is delivered jointly with our department and the School of Government (SoG) at Libera Università Internazionale degli Studi Sociali (LUISS). Based in Rome, Italy, the SoG at LUISS is Italy’s top graduate school, training high-level public and private officials to handle political and government decision-making processes.

You’ll spend your first year studying in Rome, and your second year studying in Sheffield. The course is taught in English. You’ll study European relations within the context of international society and global public affairs. By the end of the course, you’ll have developed the skills and knowledge to contribute actively to global developments as a practitioner or researcher.

Careers

Our graduates work for government and other public sector organisations, private sector companies, consultancies and think-tanks. They are directors, private secretaries, managers, political advisers, barristers, parliamentary clerks, senior civil servants and administrators.

Core modules

Three out of the following modules (Semester 1): European Politics in the Twentieth Century; European Macroeconomics; European Institutions; European Policies and Policy Making.

Three from a range including the following (Semester 2): European Migration Politics; European Foreign and Security Policy; EU and State Building in the Balkan; Transatlantic Relations; Mediterranean Politics; History of European Integration since the 1980s.

Two from a range including the following (Semester 3): The Politics of International Law; Europeanisation; Contemporary Global Security; Global Justice; Global Governance; Research Methods.

Information for international students

Overall IELTS grade of 6.5 with a minimum of 5.5 in Reading, 6.5 in Writing, 5.5 in Listening and 5.5 in Speaking, or equivalent.
