Course content

These courses are for you if you are currently teaching literacy/communication, numeracy/maths or English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) to adults or young people over 16 and are looking to continue your professional development and gain a nationally recognised teaching qualification.

The Professional Certificate in Education Adult Literacy and Communication / Adult Numeracy and Mathematics / ESOL course will qualify you to work in the post-compulsory sector (ie further education, adult and community education, prisons or work-based learning).

On the course you will have the opportunity to review and extend your teaching practice and subject knowledge, and develop professionally. At Newport, you will benefit from the guidance and support of our team of specialist teacher educators, all of whom are experienced teachers in their field. You will also learn from others in the group, and will be encouraged to share good practice and develop links with teachers from other organisations.

On completion, as a graduate, you will be awarded the Professional Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE), or the Professional Certificate in Education (Cert ED), if a non-graduate.
