Course content

The MA Child and Adolescent Mental Health is for people who work with, or intend to work with children or young people whose social and emotional development and functioning is affected adversely, or who risk being affected by mental health difficulties.

This course seeks to broaden your understanding of the causation, presentation and implications of mental health difficulties in children and young people and the knowledge and skills which will enable you to work with such individuals, their carers and other professionals in order that difficulties may be addressed. In addition the need for approaches and interventions which will promote children and young peoples' mental health and well-being are acknowledged.

This course considers various types of mental health difficulties, different characteristics, aetiology and consequences. Possible solutions are presented from the field of positive psychology.
