Course content

Biological Sciences PhD students are based in our new Life Sciences Building, a scientific focal point for researchers from across the University and external organisations, or at Southampton General Hospital, one of the country’s leading teaching hospitals.

Our vibrant Graduate School offers a supportive environment for PhD study. Our programmes provide an integrated series of training modules to help you develop your professional and personal skills as well as your scientific expertise. Your research work will be closely supervised and supported, particularly in the early months.

Opportunities exist for postgraduate research in line with the Centre’s three thematic research groups: Biomedical Sciences, Environmental Biosciences, and Molecular and Cellular Biosciences. There are also close collaborations with other disciplines including Chemistry, Ocean and Earth Science, Medicine, Engineering and Computer Science.
