Entry requirements

  • You are 18 years or older on 5 July 2025.
  • You have completed at least 1 year of Undergraduate study in July 2025.
  • You have the necessary level of English to study at university. If you do not live in an English-speaking country, you will need to send us evidence of this. The English language requirements for the Summer School are in line with the Undergraduate programme requirements at University of Southampton, with Duolingo tests being accepted. Artificial Intelligence is revolutionizing society, creativity, and global challenges, and this course invites you to explore its transformative potential. University of Southampton is a global leader in AI research and innovation, and this course draws on multidisciplinary expertise at the cutting edge of this field.

Over 2 weeks, you'll gain insights into the diverse applications of AI, with the course delving into topics such as:

  • AI in Court: Algorithms for Justice
  • AI and Music: Creativity and Creative Industries
  • AI and Art: Imagery, Artists and Artwork
  • Generative AI: Writing, Story-telling, and Intellectual Property
  • AI and Democracy: Opinions, Elections, Hate, Trolls, and Bots
  • International AI: The United Nations of Responsible AI
  • AI Science: The Maths and Computer Science Behind AI
  • AI Skills: Using AI Systems to Solve Practical Problems

Previous experience with data, maths and concepts in AI would be beneficial, however this is not a strict requirement. Please outline your suitability in a short statement when applying for your place on the course.

Course dates and costs:

  • 10 day course, overall period: Saturday 5 July to Sunday 20 July 2025
  • Tuition fee: £1,250
  • Cost with accommodation (some catering is included. Visit the 'Your student experience' tab of this website for more information): £2,221. Accommodation is optional.
