The entry requirement for the PhD/MPhil degrees is the equivalent of a first or upper second slass BSc Honours or MSci degree or MSc degree in a relevant discipline.
Months of entry
The majority of a PhD/MPhil student's work takes place in an individual research group with training provided through continual contact with the supervisors, senior postgraduate students and research staff. A wider view of the chosen field is obtained through directed literature surveys and through meetings and seminars organised by the individual groups.
The department hosts an innovative and dynamic physics research community, with major investment in research excellence and targeted developments of recognised strengths. Our research is concentrated in three research divisions: Nanoscience, Optics, and Plasma physics.
