Months of entry
The Graduate Diploma in Law (GDL) at Sussex is an academically rigorous course that provides a respected legal qualification, and can set you on the road to qualification as a barrister, solicitor or other legal professional. This is a highly rewarding, intensive, fast-track qualification, which meets the requirements of the Bar Standards Board and the Solicitors Regulation Authority. Most of the teaching staff are research active experts, so you are exposed to the most
important, current and relevant developments in the field. With a typical student to GDL teaching staff ratio of 4:1, you are well supported throughout your studies.
The Sussex GDL offers the rare opportunity to undertake a year-long dissertation project. This allows you to research and write in-depth about a subject of your choice, with support and advice from your supervisor and the course team. You also have the opportunity to take part in a range of activities such as client interviewing, mock trials, mooting and negotiating. These enable you to hone your legal practice skills, and give you the chance to enter national and
international competitions where you will widen your professional network.
Applications are made through the Central Applications Board. Refer to Essentials for details. Applicants with non-UK degrees, who intend to practice as a barrister, require a Certificate of Academic Standing from the Bar Standards Board before they can register on the course.Assessment
You will be assessed mainly through a mix of unseen exams, essays and a dissertation.
Please note that these are the core modules and options (subject to availability) for students starting in the academic year 2015.
