Course content

Are you interested in a career as a solicitor? Our LLM in Legal Practice incorporates the Legal Practice Course (LPC) which is the first stage of a solicitor’s professional training. In addition, you would take a Research Methodology module and prepare a dissertation to enhance the qualification to a Master’s award.

Career options

Successful completion of the LPC can lead to employment in a wide range of legal positions, from private practice, to areas such as local government, the Crown Prosecution Service, or the Government Legal Service, charities and in-house companies.

Course overview

You will start the course with a foundation week. Workshops introduce the course and the skills of interviewing and advising, legal writing and drafting, as well as professional conduct and taxation.

You will then start your stage one study, which runs from September to February. From March to June you will study stage two, as well as a Research Methodology module. In addition, you would write a 15,000 word dissertation on an area related to legal practice (over the summer studies period). On successful completion of stages one and two, you will have covered all of the compulsory professional elements necessary to qualify as a solicitor. To complete the LPC, you must pass stages one and two within five years.

Applicants for the full-time course must apply through www.lawcabs.ac.uk.

Applicants for the part-time course can apply on our website uwl.ac.uk.
