Entry requirements

Applicants must have the following: - an honours degree in an arts or humanities discipline - relevant work experience. We also consider applications from a range of academic and professional backgrounds on an individual basis. Where possible, we will interview potential applicants who are serious about filmmaking.

Course content

How the industry does things changes quickly, so this course explores every area of art design and development. You will learn practical production design techniques backed up by research, and closely track new developments in film and TV design. You will create work using conventional film and television industry approaches to design and art direction, whilst challenging existing output.

This course is taught by Art Director Terry Ackland-Snow at Pinewood Film Studios, and by experienced lecturers at our Ealing site. You will benefit from the vast knowledge Terry has acquired in his illustrious 40-year career. The course also gives you the practical skills needed in contemporary creative art direction, including design and budgeting, 3D realisation, and design research. This course is the ideal progression if you have studied shorter Art Direction Courses, and is an important first step towards becoming a successful Art Director and Production Designer.
