Course content

This course will aid your development as a professional musician in a number of ways.

Through advanced practical sessions, you will improve your technical ability and become a more confident performer and interpreter of music.

By experimenting with different styles, you will expand your repertoire and potential.

Finally, you will also learn to evaluate situations, to communicate more effectively and to work productively with others. These transferable skills will be important when you have the opportunity to direct an ensemble later on in the course.

As part of LCM, you will be invited to attend our weekly postgraduate research seminars and popular composition workshops. These offer excellent opportunities to learn new skills and network with students from other postgraduate courses.

We also have several large ensembles that you might like to join, including the LCM Sinfonia, LCM Big Band, LCM Choir and LCM Glee Choir.

Information for international students

You need to meet our English language requirement - a minimum of IELTS 5.5 for each of the 4 individual components (Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening). Other equivalent English language examinations will be considered. For more information, contact the International Office.

You also need academic qualifications at the same level as UK applicants. In some countries where teaching is in English, we may accept local qualifications. Check for local equivalents.

We offer pre-sessional English language courses if you do not meet these requirements. Find out more about our English Language courses.

You will need to provide us with:
