You will need: A minimum classification of 2.1 in a first degree (or equivalent); and, preferably, A Masters degree (or Masters degree pending); and (if English is not your first language) Appropriate English Language qualifications (you will normally be required to achieve minimum IELTS scores of 6.5 or equivalent). You will also need to have the commitment and motivation to undertake a sustained programme of independent and self-directed study and training as a researcher.

Course contentBased within our Centre for Research and Education in Arts and Media (CREAM) our research into Photography is part of one of the UKs leading centres for research in visual media art, design and music. It boasts over 30 researchers, including internationally renowned artists, filmmakers, photographers, theorists, critics and musicians.
With expertise covering photographic history, theory and practice, this research culture grew directly out of the university's pioneering photography courses. Interconnecting themes include the place of photography in art, the interface between photography and the moving image, fashion and photography as well as surrealism.
Information for international students
If English is not your first language you must demonstrate English language skills to the equivalent of IELTS 6.5 at commencement. We will then expect you to undertake courses to develop your English language competence to the equivalent of IELTS 7.0 in your first year of study.
