Entry requirements

You will need: A minimum classification of 2.1 in a first degree (or equivalent); and, preferably, A Masters degree (or Masters degree pending); and (if English is not your first language) Appropriate English Language qualifications (you will normally be required to achieve minimum IELTS scores of 6.5 or equivalent). You will also need to have the commitment and motivation to undertake a sustained programme of independent and self-directed study and training as a researcher.

Course content

Our Biology research has an applied focus with real-world impact. Experienced and research-active staff work in close collaboration with the bio-industry, NHS and other research institutions within the UK, Europe and the US. Our interests include:
Water Science, which aims to promote dynamic and proactive scientific study of water resources, engaging with the wider community to facilitate demand-led and evidence-based policy development for sustainable water management nationally and internationally.
Cell biology, which focuses on the way cells adapt, survive and differentiate in response to physiological and pathophysiological stimuli.
Patient centred therapeutics looking at drug development, disease detection and epidemiology.

Information for international students

If English is not your first language you must demonstrate English language skills to the equivalent of IELTS 6.5 at commencement. We will then expect you to undertake courses to develop your English language competence to the equivalent of IELTS 7.0 in your first year of study.
