You will need: A minimum classification of 2.1 in a first degree (or equivalent); and, preferably, A Masters degree (or Masters degree pending); and (if English is not your first language) Appropriate English Language qualifications (you will normally be required to achieve minimum IELTS scores of 6.5 or equivalent). You will also need to have the commitment and motivation to undertake a sustained programme of independent and self-directed study and training as a researcher.

Course contentBased within our Centre for Research and Education in Arts and Media (CREAM) our research into Film is part of one of the UKs leading centres for research in visual media art, design and music. It boasts over 30 researchers, including award winning filmmakers, theorists and critics.
Research focuses on two areas: documentary theory and practice, and non-Hollywood cinema. Through AHRC funding, conferences and strategic post doctoral appointments, the group has built a strong presence in documentary research. International research projects on South Asian and Southeast Asian cinema/visual arts are being developed with overseas partners.
Information for international students
If English is not your first language you must demonstrate English language skills to the equivalent of IELTS 6.5 at commencement. We will then expect you to undertake courses to develop your English language competence to the equivalent of IELTS 7.0 in your first year of study.
