You will need: a minimum classification of 2.1 in a first degree (or equivalent); and, preferably, a Masters degree (or Masters degree pending); and (if English is not your first language) appropriate English Language qualifications (you will normally be required to achieve minimum IELTS scores of 6.5 or equivalent). You will also need to have the commitment and motivation to undertake a sustained programme of independent and self-directed study and training as a researcher.

Course contentOur PhD programme in Property and Constructing is split into four main areas:
Property and planning focuses on business improvement districts, the use of taxation in sustainable development, and property and development finance.
Technical construction research concerns the role of building services and design technology for low carbon building. Other research is concerned with fibre-reinforced concrete, passive solar design, and energy issues of the built environment.
Construction management research focuses on incentivisation schemes in project management, risk management projects and project finance.
Construction economics research has been in infrastructure markets, international construction and economic theory applied to the construction sector.
Information for international students
If English is not your first language you must demonstrate English language skills to the equivalent of IELTS 6.5 at commencement. We will then expect you to undertake courses to develop your English language competence to the equivalent of IELTS 7.0 in your first year of study.
