Entry requirements

You will need: A minimum classification of 2.1 in a first degree (or equivalent); and, preferably, A Masters degree (or Masters degree pending); and (if English is not your first language) Appropriate English Language qualifications (you will normally be required to achieve minimum IELTS scores of 6.5 or equivalent). You will also need to have the commitment and motivation to undertake a sustained programme of independent and self-directed study and training as a researcher.

Course content

Based within our Faculty of Science and Technology, our research in Psychology encompasses work in a number of areas, with particular strengths in Psychobiology and Health Psychology (including the Psychophysiology and Stress Research Group); Cognitive Psychology and Cognitive Neuroscience; and Social Psychology.
Much of our work has an applied focus, with real-world impact. Our researchers have established an international reputation for their work, reflected in a number of prestigious editorial appointments, national and international awards, and regular public engagement work. Our teaching and research are closely linked, so that students are able to learn from leading researchers in the field.

Information for international students

If English is not your first language you must demonstrate English language skills to the equivalent of IELTS 6.5 at commencement. We will then expect you to undertake courses to develop your English language competence to the equivalent of IELTS 7.0 in your first year of study.
