Fundamentals of General Practice Nursing (PG Credit)
Entry requirements
- Applicants will hold live registrant status as an adult registered nurse / child registered nurse/ specialist community public health nurse, on the Nursing and Midwifery Council register.
- Applicants must be new to General Practice Nursing: within 12 months of employment. This will need to be verified by the GP employer within a reference of support to study.
- Evidence of a valid enhanced adult/child Disclosure and Barring Service check within 3 years of start of the course and occupational health clearance by GP employer, which needs to be validated in accordance with University of Wolverhampton admissions policy.
- Applicants will normally have a first degree, BSc (Hons) at 2.2 or above (in a relevant subject, or equivalent). Minimum of 60 credits at level 6 (studied within the last 5 years).
- Be employed as a general practice nurse by the start of the course.
- You will require a practice assessor and practice supervisor who are registered professionals within the field of General Practice and meets the NMC standards for assessment and supervision (2018).
- Please note: You must provide information to satisfy all of the above criteria on application for the course. If you cannot provide this information, your application will not be processed.

Course content
This course is designed to aid students from a range of backgrounds in building confidence and knowledge in general practice settings. Your clinical skills, underpinned with the latest theoretical knowledge, will be developed for the delivery of person-centred care to individuals, practice population and communities.
Course and module leaders are experts in general practice nursing, with experience in research and publishing writing on community nursing and public health, whose knowledge will inform your learning in whichever modular approach you take to your curriculum. Upon completion of your course, you will be able to competently practice as a General Practice Nurse, meeting the workforce demands within General Practice and Primary Care.
