Course content

This specialist programme trains you in traditional areas of environmental management, such as environmental audit, environmental management systems, impact assessment, environmental planning and stakeholder participation. It also investigates contemporary topics in environmental management, including urban sustainability, carbon management, climate change adaptation and GIS/remote sensing.

The course has a strong emphasis on the international nature of environmental issues, the natural and the built environment, sustainable development as a contemporary policy objective and the importance of considering the context within which environmental management occurs.

In addition to core modules on environmental assessment, environmental management systems, urban sustainability and environmental research methods, there will the opportunity to select a module focusing on either climate change management or GIS and remote sensing.

Modules include a dissertation (exploring a key research issue in environmental management) and a research project (using your own data and analysis), both of which are supervised on a one-to-one basis. It is also possible to study a topic of your choice independently on a one-to-one basis with your supervisor.

You are given the opportunity to undertake a work placement as part of your degree.
