Entry requirements

A lower second honours degree in mathematics or equivalent in a related subject.

A Postgraduate Certificate in mathematics or equivalent with a minimum of grade C in all modules.

Course content

This course enables you to further your mathematical knowledge in a broad range of areas of pure and applied mathematics and statistics. Material covered includes mathematical modelling (say of disease transmission and population dynamics), perturbation theory, representation theory, cybermetrics and various areas of statistics and financial mathematics. Your dissertation can be undertaken in any one of a number of different areas of mathematics, and will be supervised by a member of the academic staff.

Mathematicians are warmly welcomed in industry, business and commerce for their analytical ability and logical approach to problem solving. Choosing this course will enhance your prospects of securing relevant employment. This course is also suitable if you are planning a career in teaching mathematics or are already a qualified teacher seeking to improve your promotion prospects. Successful completion of this course may also open up opportunities to study for a doctorate level course.

English Language requirements are normally IELTS 6.5 with a minimum of 6.0 in each area (unless otherwise stated) or equivalent accepted qualification.
