Candidates for the MA will normally be required to have a good 1st degree (an upper 2nd Class degree or its equivalent), although applications from those with other qualifications may be considered on their merits. Applications are also welcomed from mature students and those returning to education. If you are a non-native English speaking applicant you must provide evidence of your English language ability. You need to show enough fluency in all aspects of English (reading, writing, speaking and listening) to the required level of the course you're applying to.

This programme aims to equip candidates with the practical and intellectual tools necessary to undertake higher degree level social research on women and gender and provide a solid grounding in interdisciplinary women's studies, emphasising gendered aspects of social and cultural life in relation to other social divisions and inequalities; it aims to expose students to an interdisciplinary range of conceptual, theoretical and methodological approaches to and debates within women's studies.
The course also aims to familiarise students with the epistemological and philosophical underpinnings of research methodologies, the politics and ethics of research, the principles of research design and to enable them to evaluate and apply a range of quantitative and qualitative methodologies to women's studies research questions.
The Centre for Women's Studies offers a Post Graduate Diploma programme for students who wish to follow the taught MA course but not write the dissertation. The diplomas are available in all 4 courses. Please see the individual MA programmes for details of taught courses.
