Entry requirements

Candidates should have a good 1st degree or MA in linguistics, psychology, sociology, education, communication, or a related area. When making an application, indicate which disciplines your research topic is relevant to and a possible supervisor for your research. If you are a non-native English speaking applicant you must provide evidence of your English language ability. You need to show enough fluency in all aspects of English (reading, writing, speaking and listening) to the required level of the course you're applying to.

Course content

The Department invites applications for the MPhil/PhD in Linguistics in any of the main areas of research in which the department is active: forensic speech science; language variation and change; phonetics and phonology; psycholinguistics; syntax and semantics.

The registration period for a PhD programme is three years full-time and six years part-time. PhD candidates may have an additional (writing-up) period of up to one year after the expiry of their registration.
