Entry requirements

This course will be of interest to those who already have some experience in media (either through study or professionally) and who want to expand their understanding of postproduction. Students will be expected to have obtained at least a 2:1 in a related undergraduate course. Alternatively, professional experience in media production will be considered in lieu of the degree requirement. All applicants will need to submit examples of their own creative work for consideration. If you are a non-native English speaking applicant you must provide evidence of your English language ability. You need to show enough fluency in all aspects of English (reading, writing, speaking and listening) to the required level of the course you're applying to.

Course content

This dynamic programme provides a detailed exploration of the postproduction process for Film, Television and gives students an in-depth understanding of industry-standard techniques and technologies in one of two dynamic fields - Visual Effects or Sound Design.

Course modules unite hands-on examination of issues surrounding programme creation, creativity and artistic decision-making with powerful scientific/technical training. The programme explores in-depth both the postproduction and visual effects creation processes for feature film and broadcast television.

The aim is to provide students with a fully rounded knowledge and a broad skill set whilst also imparting the intellectual flexibility to respond to a swiftly changing technological environment. Students receive a strong aesthetic, theoretical and technical grounding in the editing process to develop an understanding of the relationship between picture and sound as well as the role of visual effects. Programme modules include hands-on application of industry-standard techniques and tools.

Guest sessions with industry personnel provide insights into current professional practice. Previous visitors have come from Aardman Animation, Double Negative, Framestore Partizan and several other major companies.
