Course content

The Future Generations Act (Wales) 2015 has changed the way public services work. It places an obligation on them to ensure that when making their decisions they take into account the impact they could have on people living their lives in Wales in the future.

Combined with increasing and continuing pressure on resources, this calls for a new kind of public leadership and a new course to prepare our current and future public leaders.

Created with organisations across the public, private and third sectors, Wrexham Glyndŵr University’s BA (Hons) in Public Service Leadership is the only course of its kind in Wales. It will help to develop and support new systems leadership thinking and practice across the country and beyond and lead the response to the demand for transformational change in public service delivery.

The programme is unique in its design – it has been co-created by organisations from across the public, private and third sectors to ensure that it addresses the opportunities and challenges that a whole systems approach can bring to tackling complex issues.

It will support current and emerging leaders to lead better together and enhances employability and transferability of skills within and between sectors. Alumni are a key focus of the programme and the development of a ‘Community of Leadership’ to network and support.

Systems Leadership is key to tackling and addressing the complex challenges that public services face of increased demand with fewer resources and increasingly complex social challenges – It drives the leadership needed to bring people, organisations and sectors together to tackle the issues that no one organisation can achieve alone.

In Wales, the Public Services Leadership Programme will help Public Service Boards work together more effectively.

The programme is delivered by a wide range of leading experts in systems leadership and current leaders in practice. Assessments are designed to be current, contemporary and innovative.
