About Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University
Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University is a pioneering international university based in the World Heritage city of Suzhou, near Shanghai on China's east coast. It was jointly founded by two prestigious universities, Xi'an Jiaotong University in China and the University of Liverpool in UK.
As the largest international university in China, XJTLU now offers 40 masters and a broad range of PhD areas taught in English by world-class international faculty over 50 countries. Postgraduate students will receive a degree from University of Liverpool, a member of the Russell Group of leading UK universities

XJTLU offers a generous scholarship of 50% of total tuition fee, based on academic merit.

The XJTLU Library plays a key role as a Research Support and Learning Centre for the university. It provides 22,000 square metres of space, housing 300 PC’s and 2,500 seats for studying, discussion, experimental computer and studio work. Besides its wide range of journals, electronic databases and digital media, it holds over 500,000 books, which is updated throughout the year in response to requests from academic departments.

Club and societies
As a student at XJTLU, you will have the opportunity to try a range of activities and to develop your existing skills. The campus also has its very own student enterprise park, where students can try starting their own business or simply enjoy the new shops and services.
Located just 25 minutes by train from Shanghai, Suzhou has been named one of China’s most livable cities.
2,500 years of history
Suzhou has a rich history. The city’s old village canals, stone bridges, pagodas, and meticulously designed UNESCO World Heritage gardens draw millions of domestic and overseas tourists each year. Suzhou’s culture is famous across China. Marco Polo once described Suzhou as the “Venice of the East”. Suzhou’s historic Pingjiang Road offers tourist shops, coffee shops and art galleries. Other popular cultural attractions include the Suzhou Museum designed by the world famous architect I M Pei.
Great recreation and nightlife
Some of Suzhou’s main entertainment hubs are located around the scenic Jinji Lake, near the University. The Science and Culture Centre houses a theatre and IMAX cinema, one of a number of cinemas in the city. Suzhou also has many sports centres and international hotels. For nightlife, there are many restaurants, bars and clubs, with the Ligongdi area one of the most popular locations.
Looking ahead, construction of the south campus development is already underway, with Phase I set for completion in 2016/17.
The new facilities will include teaching and research space for Humanities and Social Sciences, Industrial Design, and Interdisciplinary Sciences. The campus will also include more world-class labs, studios and study space, as well as catering facilities and a central park area. Upon completion of this exciting development, XJTLU will have the capacity for 14,000 students.
