Course content

This MA programme encourages sustained engagement with illustration practice within a robust creative community. Students are supported to develop their specialism, including book illustration, comics, community art practice, narrative drawing, professionalise their artistic practice and develop their critical thinking skills. The course offers opportunities to develop live projects as well as studio practice. A diverse range of academic staff with a range of specialisms and visiting professionals will enrich the experience of the course. The programme structure allows you to focus on illustration through studio practice interwoven with a critical studies programme. This programme will support you to be a versatile creative professional illustrator.

Your illustration practice is supported through critical and contextual studies which are integrated into the programme, providing philosophical frameworks that address concepts and histories of image making and narrative work. This enables you to underpin your individual approach as an illustrator.
