Entry requirements
- MPhil or PhD with progression from MPhil: You’ll need a Bachelor degree or equivalent with first or upper second class honours, in a related subject area.
- PhD: You’ll need a Master degree or equivalent in a related subject area.
Please note we consider candidates for PhD with progression from MPhil in the first instance. If you want to be considered for direct entry to the PhD route then this can be discussed at interview if you are shortlisted. Please note you’ll also need to provide academic justification for this request.

Join our research group focused on collaborative and cross-disciplinary research, ready to guide you and enhancing your expertise in sensing, signal processing and smart control.
Our research interests include areas as:
- Signal processing techniques for multimodal data fusion
- Neuromorphic hardware (FPGA)
- Pervasive healthcare
- Mathematical modelling for engineering or medical applications
- Assisted living (for the visually impaired or the elderly)
- Human body energy harvesting
- Intelligent neuro-fuzzy logic/FPGA control of power converters
- Novel artificial dielectrics for wireless communication applications in microwave regions.
- Integrated renewable energy systems modelling and smart FPGA control
As a postgraduate researcher you’ll have access to wide-ranging expertise, as well as the state of the art research facilities which include: hardware control platforms (FPGAs, DSPs, microcontrollers), photovoltaic panels, power converters, wind turbine, oscilloscopes, measurement/monitoring equipment at our campus in Cambridge, one of the UK’s premier science and technology cities.
If you've already conducted research and published work that demonstrates an independent and original contribution to knowledge in this field of you may wish to apply for a PhD by Published Work.
